As far as the iPhone’s camera capabilities are concerned, iOS 9 was a revolutionary software update that gave the iPhone’s well-received camera a great boost with new features and an improved performance. Manual Exposure Adjustment

This new tool in the Camera app now allows you to manually adjust the exposure to make the focus of the image you are about to capture lighter or darker, providing better composition for the photo in the process. This is a huge improvement from the previous set-up where you had to set focus and exposure together, which was often frustrating if you were looking into setting the focus for one part of the scene but set the exposure for another part of the frame.

To do this, you just tap on the part of the screen where you wish the focus will be on and a yellow box with a sun icon appears. You just swipe on the sun icon up to increase or down to decrease the exposure on that part of the frame.

Self-Timer

The native Camera app now includes a self-timer, allowing you to set a 3 second or 10 second delay when taking photos. If you’re taking a selfie or if you’re taking photos in low light with the risk of camera shake along the way, then the self-timer is a useful feature.

To set this feature, just tap the self-timer button (clock icon) on the camera, then set the delay to either 3 seconds or 10 seconds.

Time Lapse Video

In iOS 8 you can now also create time-lapse videos which enable you to film a scene over a period of time and then speed up the footage so that everything appears to move much more quickly.

You can easily access this feature in the camera menu, from which you can adjust settings and take videos basically the same as you use your camera.

Organizing photos

iOS 8 has made photo organizing a bit better with its new capabilities. One of them is the addition of a new album folder in your iPhone: “deleted items.” Basically, any photo that you delete will go into the Recently Deleted album.

And if you accidentally delete a photo, you don’t have to worry about possibly losing them forever. You can go to the Recently Deleted album. Tap Select, then select the photo or photos you want to recover and tap Recover. The photos will be restored to the Recently Added album.

Items in the Recently Deleted album will be permanently erased from the album after 30 days. But if you wish to permanently delete images from the album before the 30 day time limit, select the photos, then tap Delete.

Crop/Straighten tool

The cropping feature of the iPhone has also been improved, especially with the additional feature added to it which allows you to straighten photos as well easily, thanks to the dial that pops up in the editing window.

More photo editing tools

Another cool feature in iOS 8 is the Manual Adjustments button that provides some more advanced photo editing capabilities for the iPhone. You can access it at the Photos album and clicking on the gear icon. gives you three options: Light, Color and B&W. Tapping the arrows next to each option displays a lot of  settings that you can alter manually like brightness, contrast, shadow, etc., allowing you to do more advanced photo editing on the iPhone.

Conclusion

If you are using your iPhone for photography extensively, like what some photographers like Dave Packer do, then you will surely love these features. Take time to learn their functionalities and compose better photos with these tools.

Why Shooting in RAW Can Be an Advantage

raw fileA common concern among photographers is whether to shoot in RAW or in JPEG. Beginner photographers will often hear from professional photographers that shooting in RAW is better. Yes indeed most professional shooters today choose to shoot in RAW for various reasons.

Let’s begin by defining first what a RAW is. A raw is a file format wherein the data of the image captured by your camera remains unprocessed and complete. It does not undergo automatic processing unlike in jpeg.  Thus, no data is compressed or lost. You see the exact details of the image as you capture it.

So, what’s the big deal if you get an uncompressed or unprocessed image when choosing RAW? Well, if you manage to preserve all the information of the file, then you can have better control of the image when you process it later on. Better control of how your shots will appear after post production is only one of the many advantages of shooting in RAW.

High Quality Images

Since it is important for you and your clients to produce the highest quality images, which means sharp, clear and detailed pictures, then shooting in RAW can surely help you achieve this. If you shoot in raw, the camera will not adjust or alter anything in your image. You can compose your image, use your skills, apply what you know and expect to get an image that is similar to what you see in the viewfinder. Of course, the better camera and ideal lens you have, the more perfect images you can get.

Correct Image Problems Easily

Shooting in raw will allow you more control of the images captured especially if there are flaws in it. You cannot expect to get perfect images all the time no matter how skilled you are. You will encounter situations that might hinder you from achieve that perfect. But then, if you shoot in RAW, you can easily correct the exposure, white balance, color and overall look of your images. You can enhance your photos effortlessly especially if you already gained the skills in photo editing.  Your clients will be impressed by how awesome your photos are.

Some photographers say that shooting in RAW will require one to spend more time in post processing later that’s why they choose to shoot in jpeg. Well, that is a lame excuse since even photographers who shoot in jpeg also spend time to edit or enhance the images. If you already skilled in photo editing, then post processing will be a breeze.

Memory Storage Requirement in RAW

A raw file is surely two to three times bigger than a jpeg which means that it takes up a bigger part of your memory card. This is one of the complaints by beginner photographers. This shouldn’t worry you though since nowadays memory cards a lot cheaper than before. You can even purchase affordable fast memory cards if you usually shoot fast, action events or games.

There’s no doubt that shooting in RAW offers so many advantages that you shouldn’t miss or take for granted. Go ahead and practice shooting in RAW now.

It delivers better contrast and crisper details across the entire frame, especially in the corners. While the Sigma is bigger and heavier than any of the Canon 50mm lenses, it costs only two thirds of the f1.2 when you make the price comparison, and that’s before you even factor in the ability to switch its mount (at a cost) to a different system should you move from Canon to another brand in the future.

Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM

Canon’s EF 85mm f1.8 USM is a classic portrait lens for both full-frame and cropped bodies. The longer focal length allows you to stand a little further away to take wider shots, as well as accentuate the blurred background effect. It’s the most affordable Canon prime lens with a large aperture and delivers great quality.

The EF-S 17-55mm f2.8 USM only works on cropped-bodies, where it delivers an equivalent focal length of 27-88mm – ideal for capturing group shots and single portraits. Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II USM

Canon’s EF 24-70mm f2.8L USM is a favorite of pro portrait and wedding photographers, and is now more popular than ever in an improved Mark II version. It delivers a perfect range on full-frame bodies for group shots and single portraits, and is also great for cropped bodies if wide-angle is not that important. My Mate Wants Me to Photograph his Wedding on an iPhone – WHAT!

wedding photographyI got a call from a mate asking me to photograph his wedding. At first I was really excited since I’m a newbie in Wedding Photography and I’d really like to apply what I have learned over the past months. But then, when he suggested that I use my new iPhone 6 instead of my professional DSLR camera to cover the wedding, I was dumbstruck since I don’t think an iPhone is enough for the job.

My friend then said that they’ll have a primary wedding photographer to shoot during their wedding and he wants me to give iPhoneography a try. He knows how I love my iPhone and how I’ve been busily taking pictures using this incredible smart phone. He even saw some and was amazed at how fantastic the iPhone images look.

To those who are not aware yet, iPhoneography is coined after the words “iPhone” and “Photography”. It simply refers to taking pictures using Apple’s flagship smartphone “iPhone”. iPhoneography is slowly becoming popular among photo enthusiasts and even professional photographers like Wedding Photographer Birmingham. The latest products Apple released last 2014 are iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

I have my iPhone 6 for 3 months now and have been using it daily. I love the accessibility and ease of use that my iPhone 6 is offering. I studied and practiced taking pictures with it and so far I am enjoying the experience.

I know some of you got an iPhone so I will share with you some tips on how to best shoot and edit images using an iPhone. I plan to use it in covering my friend’s wedding.

  1. Use camera grid in setting up your shot

The camera grid can help you best position your camera so it is set at your desired angle. The lines in the grid will serve as your guide so you can plan where to position your subject.

  1. A tripod can be your best friend

Like in DSLR, you can use tripod to help reduce camera shake when taking pictures using your iPhone. The les s shake, the sharper pictures you produced.

  1. Get close with the subject

Unlike in DSLR where you can produce nice pictures even when you zoom in your lens, with the iPhone it is best to avoid zooming and get as close as you can to your subject instead. Zooming on an iPhone produces grainy and lesser quality images.

  1. Configure your iPhone’s camera settings

Have a look at the settings of your iPhone’s camera and configure it so the highest resolution images come out from it.

  1. Clean the lens regularly

Cleaning the lens of your iPhone can help you get sharper images instead of blurry, poor quality ones.

  1. Edit images using VSCO or similar apps.

There are several photo editing apps for smart phones that can assist you in making your photos look more creative and brilliant. Among the most widely used by iPhone users today is VSCO. This app has plenty great filters and photo effects that you’ll definitely like. Even the professional photographer of Newborn Photography Calgary uses this app.

I still have a lot of preparations and studying to make before my mate’s big day so I can cover it successfully. In the future, I might consider offering my clients the iPhoneography wedding service once I can make it perfect (or closer to it).

Planning Your Special Day: A Guide To Weddings

Wedding planning, when not handled correctly, can drain all the joy out of the days preceding your ceremony. These wedding tips will help you have the wedding of your dreams.

For a more reasonably priced wedding, consider a date that’s not in the traditional wedding season. The wedding season is traditionally from May through September. During these months, venues become more expensive. If it is imperative that your wedding be at this time, be sure to make your reservations far ahead of the date.

Photographs capture memories that will last a lifetime. Have someone highly experienced help you with the pictures if you have the money to afford it. It will be important later in life.

Try using the property of a loved one for the wedding venue. If you know a person with a large backyard or farm, you can get rid of a huge wedding cost. Try paying someone to come out in advance and after your event to clean the place for the only location-based cost.

You can coordinate your wedding decorations with your wedding garb with simple and charming touches. Maybe choose the tiny crystals from your veil to also be sprinkled on the tables. These small details help tie everything together to create a beautiful wedding.

Don’t overcrowd your wedding reception tables with excessive flowers. Flowers can be distracting for your guests and get in their way. There are some guests that have allergies to flowers, as well. Consider placing non scented candles on the table for a romantic look.

Even if your gut tells you otherwise, you should never commit to a wedding photographer without considering several other options. A good photographer is crucial. See if your loved ones know of a good photographer or look at online reviews.

Full length mirrors are great for practicing the “aisle-walk.” If you will be wearing heels, this is even more crucial. If you’re worried that you will twist your ankle, you can wear flats instead. Not falling beats wearing sexy shoes.

When planning out your table situation at your wedding, make sure that each table has an even number of people sitting at it. As well, consider grouping tables by the ages of guests. This way those at the tables will have more to talk about.

Even if you’re sure of the dress you want and have bought it, keep it in the bridal shop prior to getting married. It can get damaged or wrinkled while hanging in your closet. Keeping it at the bridal shop ensures that it will be fresh and pressed for your big day!

If your wedding includes a colorful cake that will be its own focal point, use rich, coordinating fabric beneath it to set it off. You could even select a patterned or strongly textured fabric to focus attention on the cake and its beauty.

Have your wedding while on a cruise with your close family and friends. By doing this, you can be on your honeymoon as soon as the ceremony ends. Some cruises also have special wedding rates for those having a wedding and honeymoon on their ship.

If the couple enjoys traveling, use decorative elements which convey a sense of wanderlust when planning the wedding. Invitations and RSVP cards can be written in old script and yellowed to imitate antique postcards. Prop open a vintage suitcase and display photos, programs, or favors in it.

Plan every wedding detail, from all the events you are having down to the food. You want to make sure that your wedding is enjoyable for everyone who has agreed to take part in your special day.

There is a possibility that the seasonal flowers from your own state are not available at your wedding destination. Ask for help from professionals who live and work in the region to find out what they recommend for your big day.

Do some homework on wedding planning before meeting with a planner. Try to follow the example of stylists and fashion designers who make “look books” or even “mood boards” featuring inspirational design elements that can lead you towards your dream ceremony. Clip out magazine pictures and newspaper articles that you think fit what you want.

One of the common questions we are asked is “how do I locate a pro photographer?” Of course you can try your neighborhood telephone directory, but nowadays the easiest way is to use a search website like Yahoo. For your search term type in something like “wedding photographer your town” swapping the name of the town for the correct city or local venue. This will provide a list of photographers like http://www.danishapple.com. Prepare a shortlist and arrange appointments to go and meet at least 4 of them ahead of making a selection. Ensure you view a full wedding, not just their favourite images.

Inform your caterer if you’re going to be having your wedding reception outdoors. Certain foods do not do well in extremely warm temperatures; others are not heavy enough to withstand the wind. You might be able to use fancy or insulated covers for dishes. If needed, you can keep beverages cool in a small fridge.

A great way to place live flowers around your wedding without spending an arm and a leg on flowers that will end up in the bin is to use potted plants. You also have several choices for pot decorations. For example, two common pot options are ceramic pots and terracotta stoneware. You can also decorate the pots yourself by painting them, or dressing them up with ribbons. Once the wedding is over, it is possible for guests to take home the potted plants as a memento of the wedding, or the newlyweds may want to plant them around their new home.

You want your photographer to capture your event perfectly. When interviewing them, ask them about their vision for your day. You need to question them concerning how they handle the wedding experience and flow of events. You ought to know what style they have and if your wishes will be fulfilled.

Make sure everything is perfect for the bride so she is happy on her wedding day! Planning a wedding and dealing with problems will make a bride stressed and anxious. To avoid this, run everything you’re planning through her first.

http://www.hitched.co.uk/wedding-venues/Hampshire.htm

Get started as soon as you can planning the wedding. If you can start your wedding plans well in advance of the big day, you will enjoy a better selection of venues and services to pick from. That means you can choose the vendors that meet both your budget and your needs.

Utilize the above tips to ensure your wedding is well-planned, so you can relax on the big day. If you have planned ahead, your wedding will be a smooth and memorable transition into the next phase of your life beside the person you hold dearest.

Vital Tips For Getting Terrific Photography Results Every Time

Apply digital techniques in order to make pictures that look like watercolors, oil paintings, graphic pencil sketches, etc. Adobe Photoshop is the best-recognized software package for doing this, although there are other options available from other manufacturers. It can immediately change photos into artworks by choosing the medium required within the filter option.

Your photos should be edited by you. There are a variety of different editing software for photos that are available to you. Find one that has a vast array of options to edit the photos you have taken already. Make sure you can use it easily as well!

As a photographer, you know you have talent when you can take pictures of familiar objects and make them look interesting and unusual. Try different things to find a style that suits you.

Snap your shots as quickly as possible! If you dawdle, your subject may move away, the lighting might change or something else may ruin the shot that you have worked so hard to frame. So therefore, the faster you are when you are taking your photos, the better off you will be.

Most people think that beautiful days filled with sunshine are ideal for taking photographs. But, in fact, filming in direct sunlight is a sure-fire way to ruin just about any photographic image. Above all, you should enjoy the process of capturing images through photography. It should be an activity performed to allow you to remember a special place, time or event. You will be so happy if you are having a good time when you are snapping pictures.

Everyday items, such as digital cameras and cellphones, have increased in their picture-taking quality, but still suffer from dramatic lighting problems. Many cell phone cameras aren’t equipped with built in flashes, so that makes it vitally important you put your subject in the best lighting as possible. You can use zoom to eliminate dark spots in your picture to try and compensate for the lack of flash.

Your arms should be close against your body when you are holding the camera, and make sure your hands are on the sides and bottom of the camera. Clearer shots will result, and shaking will be minimized. Cradling your hands underneath your camera and lens also prevents you from clumsily dropping it.

Whether your model is a stranger or loved one, take the time to make them feel at home. Many people are camera-shy and avoid pictures at all costs. So be nice, initiate a conversation, then ask them if you could take their picture. Help people see photography as an art form, not as a way to invade their privacy.

Blur the background of shots with people in them just a little bit. A focused background can distract viewers from seeing the beauty of your intended subject. It is important to keep your subject in the forefront while shooting your photograph.

When photographing, utilize a white balance that isn’t automatic. This has quite an impact on the picture’s mood, and it allows you to control what your picture will look like. Through experience you will learn to see what gives the results you want. Starting out with your camera set for manual white balance gives you room to be creative.

Practice using manual adjustments to the white balance in your photographs. Indoor shots usually have a yellowish cast thanks to artificial lighting. You could change the room’s lighting, but instead look to your camera’s white balance setting. It can completely change the feel of the room. This will instantly change a so-so photo into a professional-looking shot.

Here’s a great photography tip! When you know how the shutter speed affects your photographs, you can manipulate them to add interest to your pictures. These shutter speeds are indicated by the letters P, A, S and M. The letter “P” indicates program mode. This automatic setting sets your aperture and shutter speed automatically. When you don’t know which setting to use, the “P” setting will help you capture a great shot.

Many people believe that it’s good to wear white in photos; however, this is not true. Because many cameras have auto focus, the camera will read the shades present. Wearing white ensures that the auto-focus can’t get a proper reading, leaving the photograph washed out.

Don’t neglect the foreground of a photo in favor of the background when taking a landscape shot as this is what will be noticed first. Be sure your foreground is well composed so that your picture will be strikingly framed and create a great illusion of depth.

1 of the most common questions I am asked is “how do I locate a pro photographer?” Of course you can use your regional telephone directory, but these days the quickest way is to use a search website like Bing. For your search phrase type in a keyword like “studio photographer your town” swapping the name of the town for the correct town. This will provide a list of photographers like http://www.beckyzphotography.com/.

Digital single lens reflex cameras are the camera of choice for most professional photographers. You want to look at purchasing a DSLR camera to get the best photographs. This is what most photographers are using, and if you want quality photos like them, this is what you need as well.

Keep a keen eye out for patterns, whether artificial or naturally occurring, when you are shooting a subject. Patterns, especially repeating patterns, make for something interesting to look at in a photograph. These can help create fascinating backdrops for your photos.
