event photographerOrganizing an event whether for a wedding, anniversary, charity or corporate is not easy. You need to spend time in planning and preparing for it to become successful. If the event was intended to promote your product or get more media exposure for your company, then you surely would want the event to go smoothly and create a wonderful impact to your guests. You would not want your efforts to get wasted and so the best way to remember it is to have the event photographed.

While most of us already have smartphones that we can use to take pictures, it is a different story when we photograph important events. The task of taking pictures of a special event must be left in the hands of professional event photographers.

What is an event photographer?

An event photographer knows how to compose and take pictures of big crowds. He/she is used to anticipating moments in special occasions and even knows who are the important people to photograph.

Finding the right event photographer to hire can be tough. There are many photographers who will offer their services but then not all these photographers are used to photographing events. The task of a newborn photographer is different from that of an event photographer. Taking pictures of landscapes or covering sports events are different from covering an event. Thus, the search for a professional event photographer must be done meticulously.

How can I find the right event photographer to hire?

There are factors to consider when looking for and choosing an event photographer. Below are several factors that you can employ when looking for an event photographer.

  1. Well-equipped

A great event photographer has the right equipment to use for covering the occasion. He/she has a dependable camera with another backup in case the primary doesn’t work, several lenses to use in taking different creative shots and other accessories like tripod to make the coverage easier. An efficient photographer also brings several memory cards and batteries so he can cover the event from start to finish and will never miss any important moment. Our wedding photographer surrey is equipped with the right camera and accessories to get the perfect desired shots.

  1. Skilled and knowledgeable

The event photographer you should hire must know how to compose shots no matter how big or small the crowd is. He/she must know when to use the right lenses to get the perfect shots and discern what or who to focus on during the event. A skilled photographer knows how to control his camera and adjust it whenever necessary. You will know if the photographer is skilled by looking at his previous works and asking feedback from past clients.

  1. Great personality

The photographer that you should hire must someone who is easy to talk to and shows professionalism. A good event photographer can mingle well with the crowd and can discern when to shoot or not to. He/she shows respect to the guests and is open to suggestions. This essex wedding photographer is one great example of a well-mannered professional photographer.

  1. Pleasing work attitude

A good photographer to hire is someone who doesn’t arrive late and does not give false promises. He/she must be well prepared even for unexpected circumstances and can handle situations well. He comes early for the event and wears appropriate clothes. You can assess how professional a photographer is by asking for feedback from past clients or reading online reviews.

Once you’ve made a final choice, make sure that he/she is available on that date and you book early. There must be a written contract wherein all terms and conditions are stipulated.

Basic Infant Poses that Amateur Photographers can Easily Follow

infant photographyFor photographers who are just starting in newborn photography, the move to specialize in photographing babies is quite nerve-racking. You will certainly feel nervous and unsure at first on what to do. One wrong move can possibly endanger the baby thus double care is required so nothing disastrous will happen and the newborn photo session will be successful.

In photo session, the subject is expected to perform different which are usually determined by the photographer. With newborn photo sessions it will have to be somehow different since babies still can’t follow instructions. The newborn poses will be totally controlled by the photographers. This makes it more important for the photographer to learn what the best yet safe infant poses are.

You cannot just mold the baby’s figure to a specific pose without thinking of his/her safety. You have learn ahead how a baby must be handled and what ways can be one to ensure the baby’s safety while making him/her do a certain pose. If you are new to newborn photographer, you will need to learn first the basic infant poses before trying those that are a bit difficult. With every pose changes, the safety of the baby must be kept in mind.

Here are some of the basic infant poses that are easy for amateur newborn photographers to follow:

  1. The Cradle Hold

It is a pose wherein the mom and dad cradle the baby in their arms while touching his fingers, toe or hair. In some cradle hold pose, the mom or dad kisses the baby in the forehead. Try to take a few shots separately with the mom and dad then put them all together in one great shot from different camera angle for a more unique shot.

  1. Shot facing the camera

This is the most traditional shot in infant portrait photography. It is where the subject is actually facing the camera head on. Just like before, take some individual shot with mom and dad carrying the baby facing the camera then you could do an all-together shot. It’s a perfect shot which you do either in standing or sitting position. It can also be set in a couch, a rocking chair or even in a swing. You just have to be careful not to slip down. Since the baby is actually facing the camera, this is the best time to take some clear macro shots.

We all know that when baby is at sleep, they sometimes tend to smile or even laugh and this is the perfect opportunity to document it. The parents will surely appreciate seeing their perfect little angel smiling at the camera.

  1. Shot facing the baby towards the parents

It’s a simple but breathtaking image of parents looking at their adorable child. Surely, no one could match the feeling of a mom having the baby inside her womb for 9 months and now finally facing him/her eye to eye.

Take shots from different angles and always remember to put some details in your shots. It is also a great pose for both parents snuggling or kissing the baby. Again do it separately with both parents and the final shot with altogether.

  1. Lying the baby down

In this kind of position photographers would be advised to lay down the baby in bed either on his/her tummy or back. Try to shot in two different ways if possible- one when the baby is awake and in the mood while the other is when the baby is completely asleep. Besides being with his mom and dad, you can also take a solo shot of the baby in this position.

The poses you do must be safe for the baby. Never try anything you are unsure of just for the sake of getting unique shots. You can still come up with brilliant newborn photos without having to perform difficult poses.

Getting Started with Street Photography

street photographyMore and more people are showing interest in street photography. Street photography indeed seems fun, exciting and challenging. But then, it is not as simple as you may think it is. Somebody new to this form of photography will initially feel a certain fear – fear of photographing people.

If you are just getting started in street photography and feel nervous about taking candid shots of the people you see then that is normal. What you need to do is overcome that fear and apply techniques to get the pictures you want without being too intrusive.

To Ask Permission or Not To?

In street photography, you will be taking shots of random people candidly. Sometimes you will feel the need to ask permission but oftentimes you will just take the snap shot without their knowledge. While it can be some sort of privacy invasion, you can take away the guilt of taking shots if you try to assess if the picture will hurt or offend that person.

Some street photographers opt to determine first how the person will react before he takes the shot. If you think the person will get mad once he noticed you photographing him, then don’t take the shot. The best way to get away with being caught red-handed is by smiling and bowing your head to show positivity and respect. If need be, you can give an explanation on why you photographed that person or why you want him/her as a subject. It can be as simple as you like the clothes, hat, hair or the like.

Choosing where to shoot?

Now, where can you find interesting subjects to shoot? Street photography doesn’t mean you have to limit yourself in photographing only in the streets. You can take pictures in different public places. You can go to a popular tourist destination like a zoo or a park then look for interesting individuals to photographer. You need to keep an eye for once-in-a-lifetime, fleeting moments that are worth photographing. Even Paul Fuller Photographer is always on alert when covering weddings to avoid missing precious moments.

Here are some tips to help you produce wonderful street pictures.

  1. Pay particular attention to people’s expressions and mood. See how they act and react to what’s happening around them.
  2. Bring a small camera like a reliable point and shoot camera or a light weight mirrorless. DSLR cameras are quite big and not really that suitable for street photography unless you have a reliable camera bag and telephoto lens.
  3. Go to a crowded and appear like a tourist. People will think you are shooting the views or scenes you see though in reality you are photographing the people there.
  4. Smile and be nice. A smile, nod and bow are gestures that show courtesy and respect. The more friendly you look, the more
  5. Close up shots that show real emotions and expressions of people are great to capture. For DSLR users, a telephoto lens is awesome to use. You can take shots from a distance by just zooming in and the image will still appear sharp. You will also remain unnoticed by your subject.
  6. Try different angles and practice constantly. Experiment with how your images will appear when shot diagonally or when you go down on your knee for a shot. You can check out Martin Beddall Photography website to get ideas on what unique angles are best in getting awesome images.

There’s so much more to learn about street photography. If you’re really serious about it, then continuously study and practice until you master it.

Choosing a DSLR for Wedding Photography

wedding photographyIn professional photography, there are countless types of photography that an aspiring photographer can choose from. Another feature to look for in a DSLR is a huge memory buffer. With a huge memory buffer, you can photograph fast even if you choose to shoot in RAW. RAW pictures are bigger and require less storage. This can slow down a camera but with a bigger memory buffer you can shoot plenty of RAW files.

  1. Lightweight

The size of a DSLR is important to some professional photographers. With a lightweight camera, it will be easier to hold it when taking pictures especially in long exposures. Holding a heavy camera can cause camera shakes thus resulting to blurry images. With a lighter camera, there’ll be less camera movement.

If you are planning to take videos using your camera, then you can surely do it with DSLRs. There are DSLRs that enables you to produce high-resolution videos so make sure to check its specs and read reviews about the camera you are interested to buy. 1. Less noise at high ISO

When shooting at high ISO, there are instances when more noise is produced thus a lesser quality photo might come out. But then, if you choose a camera that works well even at high ISO you can surely get the perfect picture you desire.

Canon 5D Mark III and Nikon D800 are two of the DSLR cameras that wedding photographers of Ben Larpent Photography love use when working on weddings. You can check out these two and other models that have the characteristics listed above.

A great camera body can produce excellent images but then keep in mind that lenses are equally important. You can have a less-pricey camera attached to a great lens for wedding photography and still get the same high resolution picture that an expensive camera can yield.

Why I Love My Thinktank Airport 2 Carry-on Camera Bag

camera bagI’ve always heard good feedback about Think Tank products but never had the chance to get my hands on one. And since, I accepted the offer to cover a destination wedding event in a different city I need to travel and bring lots of equipment. The camera bags I own at that time aren’t big enough for all the equipment I plan to bring and so I decided to buy a new camera bag.

I asked my fellow photographer surrey wedding photographer for advice and read some reviews until finally I found my ideal camera bag – the ThinkTank Airport Security 2 Rolling Camera Bag! The bag, in my opinion, is the best camera bag I ever had.  It exceeded my expectations and I would never hesitate to recommend it to other professional photographers.

Here are some of the reasons why I love my ThinkTank Airport 2:

  1. Easy to carry and fit in

ThinkTank Airport 2 Rolling Camera bag meets the requirements of most domestic and international airports for carry-ons. The bag weighs only between 12 to 14 lbs. with a dimension of 14” x 22” x 9”. Most airlines will allow you to hand carry a bag with this size although you still need to check with the particular airline before doing so.

  1. Large and spacious

The camera bag looks small from the outside but is very large and spacious inside. I was able to fit in my primary camera body and my 2 backups, 3 lenses, 1 tripod, 1 laptop, 1 flash, small items like memory cards, battery packs, and other accessories. I was really amazed because even when I’m done packing I still have extra space to add items.

  1. Numerous compartments

The numerous compartments inside my ThinkTank bag made it easier for me to organize small items so they are organized and secured. The dividers are also padded and reinforced for added strength. None of my cameras and accessories got broken or damaged since they are separated individually.

  1. Combination lock and security cable

Since we invested a lot in buying our equipment, we need to make sure they are secure from theft. My Thinktank Airport 2 Bag has a combination lock which means no other people can open it. I feel relaxed knowing that my pricey gears are safeguarded. My friend, wedding photographer essex, also feels the same way.

Moreover, it has a security cable on the rear side that allows you to securely attach your bag to an immovable object like a post. This implies that nobody can snatch the camera bag if you want to leave it someplace while covering an event.

  1. Water resistant with seam-sealed rain cover and replaceable wheels

ThinkTank Airport 2.0 bag also has a seam-sealed cover and external water-resistant covering so you can be assured that your equipment don’t get wet from rain or water. The skate style wheels are also replaceable and when I purchased the bag I got a free kit containing extra wheels which I can use when wheels wear out.

  1. Front pocket organizer

The front pocket organizer allowed me to place my memory cards, charger, and other small items neatly inside the bag. I don’t have to fumble to look for things inside the bag since I can see each one right away.

  1. Cable and lock for laptops

My laptop is secured in place because the bag has a cable and lock that keeps the laptop in place during the travel. You can be assured that your laptop won’t get damaged by shakes or thuds during the travel.

There are still a lot of other wonderful features that ThinkTank can offer you. Check out their website to know the other features. For sure, you will be thrilled to get one of these ThinkTank Airport 2 Camera bag!

My Mate Wants Me to Photograph his Wedding on an iPhone – WHAT!

wedding photographyI got a call from a mate asking me to photograph his wedding. At first I was really excited since I’m a newbie in Wedding Photography and I’d really like to apply what I have learned over the past months. But then, when he suggested that I use my new iPhone 6 instead of my professional DSLR camera to cover the wedding, I was dumbstruck since I don’t think an iPhone is enough for the job.

My friend then said that they’ll have a primary wedding photographer to shoot during their wedding and he wants me to give iPhoneography a try. He knows how I love my iPhone and how I’ve been busily taking pictures using this incredible smart phone. He even saw some and was amazed at how fantastic the iPhone images look.

To those who are not aware yet, iPhoneography is coined after the words “iPhone” and “Photography”. It simply refers to taking pictures using Apple’s flagship smartphone “iPhone”. iPhoneography is slowly becoming popular among photo enthusiasts and even professional photographers like Wedding Photographer Birmingham. The latest products Apple released last 2014 are iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

I have my iPhone 6 for 3 months now and have been using it daily. I love the accessibility and ease of use that my iPhone 6 is offering. I studied and practiced taking pictures with it and so far I am enjoying the experience.

I know some of you got an iPhone so I will share with you some tips on how to best shoot and edit images using an iPhone. I plan to use it in covering my friend’s wedding.

  1. Use camera grid in setting up your shot

The camera grid can help you best position your camera so it is set at your desired angle. The lines in the grid will serve as your guide so you can plan where to position your subject.

  1. A tripod can be your best friend

Like in DSLR, you can use tripod to help reduce camera shake when taking pictures using your iPhone. The les s shake, the sharper pictures you produced.

  1. Get close with the subject

Unlike in DSLR where you can produce nice pictures even when you zoom in your lens, with the iPhone it is best to avoid zooming and get as close as you can to your subject instead. Zooming on an iPhone produces grainy and lesser quality images.

  1. Configure your iPhone’s camera settings

Have a look at the settings of your iPhone’s camera and configure it so the highest resolution images come out from it.

  1. Clean the lens regularly

Cleaning the lens of your iPhone can help you get sharper images instead of blurry, poor quality ones.

  1. Edit images using VSCO or similar apps.

There are several photo editing apps for smart phones that can assist you in making your photos look more creative and brilliant. Among the most widely used by iPhone users today is VSCO. This app has plenty great filters and photo effects that you’ll definitely like. Even the professional photographer of Newborn Photography Calgary uses this app.

I still have a lot of preparations and studying to make before my mate’s big day so I can cover it successfully. In the future, I might consider offering my clients the iPhoneography wedding service once I can make it perfect (or closer to it).
