I got a call from a mate asking me to photograph his wedding. At first I was really excited since I’m a newbie in Wedding Photography and I’d really like to apply what I have learned over the past months. But then, when he suggested that I use my new iPhone 6 instead of my professional DSLR camera to cover the wedding, I was dumbstruck since I don’t think an iPhone is enough for the job.
My friend then said that they’ll have a primary wedding photographer to shoot during their wedding and he wants me to give iPhoneography a try. He knows how I love my iPhone and how I’ve been busily taking pictures using this incredible smart phone. He even saw some and was amazed at how fantastic the iPhone images look.
To those who are not aware yet, iPhoneography is coined after the words “iPhone” and “Photography”. It simply refers to taking pictures using Apple’s flagship smartphone “iPhone”. iPhoneography is slowly becoming popular among photo enthusiasts and even professional photographers like Wedding Photographer Birmingham. The latest products Apple released last 2014 are iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
I have my iPhone 6 for 3 months now and have been using it daily. I love the accessibility and ease of use that my iPhone 6 is offering. I studied and practiced taking pictures with it and so far I am enjoying the experience.
I know some of you got an iPhone so I will share with you some tips on how to best shoot and edit images using an iPhone. I plan to use it in covering my friend’s wedding.
Use camera grid in setting up your shot
The camera grid can help you best position your camera so it is set at your desired angle. The lines in the grid will serve as your guide so you can plan where to position your subject.
A tripod can be your best friend
Like in DSLR, you can use tripod to help reduce camera shake when taking pictures using your iPhone. The les s shake, the sharper pictures you produced.
Get close with the subject
Unlike in DSLR where you can produce nice pictures even when you zoom in your lens, with the iPhone it is best to avoid zooming and get as close as you can to your subject instead. Zooming on an iPhone produces grainy and lesser quality images.
Configure your iPhone’s camera settings
Have a look at the settings of your iPhone’s camera and configure it so the highest resolution images come out from it.
Clean the lens regularly
Cleaning the lens of your iPhone can help you get sharper images instead of blurry, poor quality ones.
Edit images using VSCO or similar apps.
There are several photo editing apps for smart phones that can assist you in making your photos look more creative and brilliant. Among the most widely used by iPhone users today is VSCO. This app has plenty great filters and photo effects that you’ll definitely like. Even the professional photographer of Newborn Photography Calgary uses this app.
I still have a lot of preparations and studying to make before my mate’s big day so I can cover it successfully. In the future, I might consider offering my clients the iPhoneography wedding service once I can make it perfect (or closer to it).
